Goggle Brings a Gaggle of Problems to Google

Courtesy of Benzinga.

Have you mistyped google.com lately?

If so, you might have wound up at goggle.com, goggle.net, or goggle.org, three sites that belong to Goggle.com, Inc., a reportedly shady company that is attempting to cash in on the mistakes of clumsy web surfers.

According to TechCrunch, Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) first filed a complaint with the National Arbitration Forum to acquire the aforementioned domain names.

(Note: TechCrunch advises that users do not visit any of the Google-sounding websites. I’ll take their word for it and refrain from investigating them myself).

Google alleged that, in addition to the names and trademarks being confusingly similar, Goggle’s domains currently lead to a website that hosts a phishing scam. Further, Google claims that it had previously entered into a “confidential settlement agreement” with the previous owner of the domains.

Now Google must go to court if it expects to gain control of these similar-sounding domains.
