CBS gets an assist from Chief Justice John Roberts

• CBS (CBS +0.1%) trails other media stocks on the day with the company seen as having more at stake in the Aereo case in front of the Supreme Court. Though not quite a pure-play broadcaster, CBS is less diversified than the parent companies of its major network peers.
• Deadline.com notes shares of CBS dipped mysteriously during the Supreme Court’s early period of questioning before recovering. A suggestion from Chief Justice John Roberts that Aereo technology seems to be a mechanism to avoid copyright probably helped the CBS cause.
• Roberts to Aereo: “Your technology model is based solely on circumventing legal prohibitions.”
