Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) will launch the largest-ever iPad with a screen of 12.9 inches early next year, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.

Apple's current iPad models are 9.7-inch and 7.9 inches.

The new version is slated to go into production during the first quarter of 2015 and won't be available for holiday sales according to Bloomberg, which cited unnamed sources.

Sales of iPads, which are Apple's second-biggest seller after iPhones, have been sinking for two straight quarters, falling nine percent in the most recent period and well below Wall Street's expectations.

The company also plans to launch a new version iPad with a 9.7-inch screen, as well as a new iPad mini, with both expected to be available at retail for holiday sales.

Apple is also increasing the screen size of the iPhone, according to Bloomberg and other reports. The new iPhones are set to launch September 9 including models with a 4.7- inch screen and a 5.5-inch screen.

Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook told The Wall Street Journal last month that he's not worried by declining iPad sales because business sales are expected to take up the slack.

The larger screens, plus a revamped operating software may make the new iPads more attractive to business customers, Bloomberg said.

Apple traded recently at $101.17, down 0.37 percent.
