Robert Ohmes of Bank of America visited the Roosevelt Field Mall during the holiday shopping period to observe first hand the performance of several retailers.
These are his key takeaways.
- Finish Line (NASDAQ: FINL) saw healthy trends as athletic footwear and apparel momentum appeared to have been “very healthy” heading in to the holiday season.
- VF Corp (NYSE: VFC) saw several of its key brands standing out including Timberland boots that "far outperformed" expectation, North Face that "appears to be performing well" and a "strong performance" at Vans stores.
- Michael Kors (NYSE: KORS) products were described as a “powerhouse” with strong sell-thrus at both full-price stores and within Macy's, Inc. (NYSE: M) shop-in-shops.
- Dicks Sporting Goods Inc (NYSE: DKS) appeared to be un-promotional in key seasonal categories among hot-selling Nike Inc (NYSE: NKE) apparel along with North Face and Columbia brands. In fact, the analyst labeled Dicks Sporting Goods along with Nike as “top athletic picks.”
