How HP Suddenly Became A Buy Again (Seeking Alpha)

After returning more than 42 percent in 2014, Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HPQ) needs to find new ways to keep growing.

Now, the word is that the company is reorganizing its cloud business as Marten Mickos, the former Eucalyptus CEO who became HP’s top cloud man in September, cedes key responsibilities.

According to JPMorgan's Rod Hall, an email viewed by Gigaom indicates that Mickos “is turning over key responsibilities to three other HP executives.”

The email noted Mickos will now focus on “customer engagement and advocacy.” In a note to investors, Hall also explained that “as for day-to-day cloud operations, Bill Hilf will take on product strategy, Kerry Bailey will lead sales, and Mark Interrante will head up engineering.”

This group is also expected to work with HP CTO Martin Fink, while Ning Wang, Eucalyptus’ former CFO, is leaving her job in cloud operations to undertake another yet-unnamed position.

“This is a pretty rapid change after HP acquired Eucalyptus in September of last year,” Hall wrote.

“We [analysts at JPMorgan] suspect that the startup management team may have ended up a poor fit for HP’s cloud aspirations which, in our opinion, are focused turnkey cloud solutions for larger organizations.”
