Alpha Natural Resources Inc (NYSE: ANR) reported a strong rise in its third-quarter profit.
Alpha Natural Resources lifted its 2012 coal shipment forecast by 500,000 tons to 23.5 million to 26.5 million tons.
Alpha Natural Resources’ quarterly profit surged to $66.4 million, or $0.29 per share, from $31.9 million, or $0.27 per share. Excluding some items, Alpha Natural Resources’ adjusted earnings from continuing operations came in at $0.35 per share. Its revenue climbed to $2.3 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.04 per share on revenue of $2.06 billion.
Alpha Natural Resources’ operating margin came in at 5%.
Alpha Natural Resources shares surged 12.83% to $27.00 in pre-market trading.
