Marvell Technology Group Ltd. (NASDAQ: MRVL) is keeping investors in suspense about a supposedly "game-changing" technology planned for the current quarter, an analyst said Monday.

FBR's Christopher Rolland speculated the technology may integrate radio frequency into the computer component maker's cellular mobile platform.

Rolland, who made the comment in a research note following his attendance at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, also said Marvell was equally tight-lipped about recent rumors it may sell its wireless unit.

Rolland maintained a Market Perform rating on Marvell, and said the company was "extremely optimistic" that its wireless unit can maintain its 30 percent market share for fourth-generation chips in China, and that it can double the volume of units sold there during 2015.

The optimism suggests that Marvell won't sell the unit for a discounted price of $500 million or less, Rolland said.

Rolland further speculated that Marvell could enter the market for ARM servers later this year.

Hewlett-Packard Company (NASDAQ: HPQ) recently became the first major vendor to offer an ARM server, with Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) and Dell Computer reportedly studying similar moves.

If Marvell obtains a license on the technology, it could prove a boon to ARM Holdings plc (NASDAQ: ARMH), Rolland said.

Marvell closed Monday at $15.92, down 0.69 percent.
