Several people are hurt after someone drove a vehicle through a crowd of pedestrians at Logan International Airport in Boston. Media reports peg the number of injured in the Boston airport crash at nine or ten, with the severity of the injuries varying widely. Emergency personnel transported those who were injured to local hospitals in Boston.
Cab drivers injured in crash
It happened at around 1:40 p.m. today when a cab was driven through a crowd of people and then smashed into a building close to the taxi pool at Boston’s Logan International Airport. Video of the scene shows a taxi with its hood crumpled up against a building. Police are reportedly interviewing the driver of the vehicle, who they identified as a 56-year-old Cambridge, Massachusetts man.
Massachusetts State Troopers told local media that a taxi had jumped the curb and hit several cab drivers who were sitting in a rest area waiting for their next fares. WCVB-TV describes the place where the accident happened as a patio with picnic tables located next to a parking lot where taxis are parked. State police said taxi drivers often sit on the patio during their break times.
Officials believe the Boston airport crash was an accident
The Boston airport crash comes at a time when everyone is on edge due to a string of terrorist attacks involving vehicles that have been driven through crowds of people. However, early indications suggest that this crash in Boston was not a terrorist attack, and Massachusetts State Police say they have no information suggesting that the crash was intentional.
NBC Boston reports that witnesses said the driver had told them that he had lost control of the vehicle, and various media outlets report that the crash was probably caused by the driver accidentally hitting the gas pedal instead of the brake.
