The leaders attending today’s G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, will have a lot to discuss. Key issues on the table of a deeply divided summit include terrorism, climate change and protectionism.

The event is particularly notable as the first time Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin will meet each other face-to-face. Hopes are high that the two men will have a constructive meeting, given that they have praised each other on several occasions over the past few months. However, the US and Russia are still deeply divided, particularly over Syria and Ukraine.

But, as Statista’s Niall McCarty notes, when it comes to leadership at the G20, most countries are casting their eyes towards Angela Merkel.

You will find more statistics at Statista

The majority of G20 members have more confidence in the German chancellor than the US president, according to a survey from the Pew Research Center.

The research found that only 14 percent of people in France have confidence in Trump doing the right thing for world affairs compared to 79 percent for his German counterpart.

That pattern is repeated across the board, though Russia and India are notable exceptions with majorites in both nations having more faith in Trump’s global leadership.
