A man wielding a hammer reportedly attacked two women in the city of Chalon-sur-Saone. He was reportedly shouting “Allahu Akbar” at the time of the attack. Early press reports indicate that the France hammer attack left the two women injured.
Details on the France hammer attack
The assailant in the France hammer attack was dressed all in black, and French media outlets report that police have not detained him yet. Police have reportedly dispatched a helicopter to track him down.
According to a statement from the prosecutor’s office, the two women were attacked in the vicinity of Place de Beaune, a public park in Chalon-sur-Saone, a little before noon. Witnesses reported hearing the man shout “Allahu Akbar” while hitting the two women. The two attacks occurred about 15 minutes apart. According to media reports, it’s believed that one of the women was hit in the back of the head. Emergency personnel have transported both of them to an area hospital; their conditions are unknown.
Terrorist attack or the actions of a sick man?
Prosecutors are treating the France hammer attack as a potential terrorist attack, although they also believe that the assailant may simply be ill.
This attack occurred not long after another man wielding a knife attempted to stab a soldier at a Metro station in Paris. However, no one was hurt in that attempted attack, according to French media, and the assailant was arrested not long after.
