The following are the M&A deals, rumors and chatter circulating on Wall Street for Friday September 5 through Sunday September 7, 2014: DISH's Charlie Ergen May be Interested in T-Mobile Deal Following Spectrum Auction The Rumor:
DISH Network Corp (NASDAQ: DISH) CEO Charlie Ergen has reportedly been in contact with Deutsche Telekom (OTC: DTEGY) regarding a potential acquisition of its T-Mobile US Inc (NYSE: TMUS), according to sources. The sources said Ergen told Deutsche Telekom that he might be interested in a deal to acquire T-Mobile, following the November auction for wireless airwaves. T-Mobile's parent has recently rejected an offer from France's Iliad, whose CEO Xavier Niel, is said to have been talking to third-parties in an attempt to boost the offer. T-Mobile closed Friday at $30.67, a gain of $0.43. Dish Network shares closed almost 1% higher, at $66.44. Rakuten Reportedly Reaches Agreement to Acquire Ebates for ~$952M The Rumor:
Japan's largest online retail marketplace, Rakuten, has reportedly reached an agreement to acquire cashback shopping site Ebates for approximately $952 million, according to sources. Dow Jones reports a deal could be announced this week, in an attempt for Rakuten to compete against larger companies, including Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Alibaba (NYSE: BABA). CenturyLink Seeking to Acquire Rackspace The Rumor:
CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL) is seeking to acquire Rackspace Hosting (NYSE: RAX), according to a report from Bloomberg on Sunday, citing sources. Spokespersons for the companies declines comment. In May, Rackspace hired Morgan Stanley to assist in a review of strategic options, including a potential merger. Rackspace closed Friday at $37.24, a gain of $0.03.
