Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) on Tuesday announced that it acquired Datazen Software, an industry leader in mobile business intelligence and data visualization on Windows, iOS and Android devices.

A company-issued press release noted that the acquisition accelerates the company’s Power Business Intelligence (BI) strategy to “help organization create a data culture with ease-to-use, accessible tools to extract maximum value from data – from anywhere, on any device.”

“Companies around the world need simpler ways to find data insights they can use to improve their business. With the pervasive use of mobile devices at work, mobile business intelligence (BI) is at a tipping point,” Kamal Hathi, Partner Director, Cloud And Enterprise At Microsft wrote. “Datazen is a mobile-first company at the forefront of this wave, with enterprise customers around the globe using its technology.”

“Datazen is positioned as a mobile BI solution for customers who need a solution that is implemented on-premises,” Datazen’s CEO Miljan Braticevic wrote in a blog post. “As such, it will complement Power BI, Microsoft’s cloud-based business analytics service.”

Microsoft’s press release continued that SQL Server customers love Datazen because it is optimized for SQL Server Analysis Services and the overall Microsoft platform, enabling rich, interactive data visualization and KPIs on all major mobile platforms. Over time, Microsoft will integrate Datazen technology with Power BI to offer customers a “hybrid bridge” for their on-premises investment to the cloud.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not mentioned.
