Estee Lauder Calls Active Ahead Of Earnings

Today’s tickers: EL, HAR & UBNT

EL - Estee Lauder Companies Inc. – Shares in Estee Lauder are bucking the trend today, up 0.85% at $66.57 as of 12:15 p.m. ET, amid a down day for U.S. stocks. Options on the manufacturer of skin care, makeup, fragrance and hair care products are more active than usual ahead of the company’s fourth-quarter earnings report next Thursday after the closing bell, with overall volume approaching 3,000 contracts as compared to average daily volume of around 650 contracts. EL shares have surrendered roughly 8.0% of their value since touching a 52-week high of $72.70 back on May 28th, but options changing hands on the stock today suggest some traders are positioning for the price of the underlying to recover in the near term. The Sep $70 strike calls are the most actively traded contracts thus far in the session, with around 2,200 lots in play against open interest of 389 contracts. It looks like much of the volume was purchased for an average premium of $0.80 apiece, thus positioning buyers of the contracts to profit at September expiration in the event shares gains more than 6.0% to surpass the average breakeven point at $70.80.

HAR - Harman International Industries, Inc. – Trading traffic in Harman International Industries options today suggests some traders are gearing up for shares in the name to push higher in the near term. The stock increased as much as 6.6% today to touch a new 52-week high of $69.16 after the maker of stereo and audio equipment reported fourth-quarter earnings and revenue growth above analyst estimates. Traders positioning for shares in Harman to extend gains appear to be snapping up August expiry calls. The most actively traded front month calls as measured by volume are the Aug $70 strike contracts, with…

Estee Lauder Options Rosy On Stock’s Performance Near Term

Options brief will resume April 8, 2013.

Today’s tickers: EL, RFMD & AVGO

EL - Estee Lauder Cos., Inc. – Options changing hands on Estee Lauder today look for shares in the maker of skincare products, makeup and fragrances to post attractive gains in the near term. Shares in the provider of high quality products sold under brand names that include Bobbi Brown, La Mer, and Clinique, are up slightly today, trading 0.25% higher on the session at $65.04 as of 11:55 a.m. ET. The stock has rallied approximately 8% since the start of 2013. Overall options volume on Estee Lauder is running at roughly three times the stock’s average daily volume as of midday in New York, with upwards of 3,200 contracts traded. Most of the action is in the May $65 strike call, where around 2,400 calls changed hands versus open interest of 805 contracts. It looks like most of the $65 calls were purchased this morning for an average premium of $2.35 apiece. The bullish strategy pays off at expiration if shares in EL rally another 3.5% over the current price of $65.04 to surpass the breakeven point at $67.35. Call buyers may be looking to benefit from a pop in Estee Lauder’s shares following the company’s third-quarter earnings report on May 2nd.

RFMD - RF Micro Devices, Inc. – Bearish activity in RF Micro Devices options this morning suggests one trader is bracing for shares in the name to potentially decline substantially during the next six weeks. The stock has moved higher in recent months, up more than 10% year to date. Shares today are down 0.60% at $5.10 as of 12:10 p.m. ET. May expiry put buying on RFMD may be looking for the stock to pullback following the company’s fourth-quarter earnings report later this month. Upwards of 6,600 puts were purchased at the May $5.0 strike at a premium of $0.35 each during the first hour of the trading session. The bearish stance on RF Micro Devices makes money at expiration if shares…

Constellation Brands Bulls Make Bank As Shares Soar To 5-Year High

Today’s tickers: STZ, EL & SKS

STZ - Constellation Brands, Inc. – Cheers to traders that got long call options on beer distributor Constellation Brands prior to- and following reports AB InBev NV may purchase the rest of Grupo Modelo SAB for $20.1 billion. Constellation’s shares spiked 14.0% on Monday with deal-chatter a-brewing and exploded to the upside today on news the company will purchase the other half of Crown Imports, a joint venture with Grupo Modelo, making Constellation the sole U.S. importer of Corona and Crown’s other brands. Shares in STZ jumped nearly 26% today to a new 5-year high of $27.40, driving up the value of Constellation Brands call options. One Monday we noted the purchase of around 1,500 of the July $20 strike calls, initiated back on Friday, June 22nd, at $0.40 per contract. The big move in the stock on Monday saw the value of the contracts increase five-fold over the weekend to $2.30. Today it looks like the value of the long $20 strike call position is up 1,625% over the original purchase price based on the call’s last traded price of $6.90. Traders that snapped up Aug. $20, $22.5 and $25 strike calls on Constellation on Monday are also sitting pretty today, with triple digit percentage increases in premium in each of those contracts this afternoon.

EL - Estee Lauder Companies Inc. – Shares in the maker of skin care, makeup and fragrance and hair care products sold under brands including La Mer and Bobbi Brown rallied 2.6% to $54.32 at the start of the session, helped higher by positive news out of Europe and an ‘Outperform’ rating initiated at Wells Fargo. The stock is off its highest levels of the session and options activity on the stock suggests the shares could reverse gains in the near term. Front month puts are the most active options on Estee Lauder this morning, with more than 3,100 puts trading at the…

XLF Put/Call Ratio Highest Since June 2010, trades Suggest Continued Pain For Financials

Today’s tickers: XLF, EL, RCII & CY

XLF - Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund – Massive prints in XLF put options cropped up ahead of President Obama’s speech on plans to cut the budget deficit and amid heightened concerns regarding the European debt crisis over the weekend. Shares in the XLF, an exchange-traded fund that tracks the performance of the Financial Select Sector of the S&P 500 Index, fell 3.1% to $12.50 by 11:15 am ET as the President wrapped up his speech by reiterating the need for a balanced approach to the deficit issue. Large trades in December contract puts this morning suggest some strategists expect financials to worsen through the end of the year.

One bearish play, which yields maximum benefits if shares in the ETF drop more than 25% by December expiration, is one of the largest initiated on the XLF so far today. It looks like the investor responsible for the put spread purchased 75,000 puts at the Dec. $11 strike for a premium of $0.57 each, and sold the same number of puts at the lower Dec. $9.0 strike at a premium of $0.23 apiece. Net premium paid on the transaction amounts to $0.34 per contract. The trader profits on the spread if shares in the fund fall 14.7% to breach the effective breakeven price of $10.66 at expiration in December. Maximum potential profits of $1.66 per contract are available on the position should the price of the underlying plunge 28% to trade below $9.00 at expiration. Shares in the XLF last traded below $9.00 back in April 2009. Put options on the XLF are changing hands more than 10 times for each single call option in action as of 11:30 am in New York. The put to call ratio on the fund is currently at its highest since June 2010.…

Futures Spike After Germany Yanks "Debt Break": Berlin To "Temporarily Suspend" Limit On Public Borrowing

Courtesy of ZeroHedge View original post here.

The Germans may have opposed closing borders in response to the outbreak in Italy, but it appears Berlin is planning to do something about the outbreak.

According to reports, the Germans are stepping up to suspend Berlin's longstanding constitutional "debt break" and deliver the fiscal stimulus for which economists have been begging.

To try and prevent a full-blown recession ...

Dow Industrials Reversal Lower Could Be Double Whammy for Stock Bulls!

Dow Jones Industrial Average “monthly” Chart

The Dow Industrials have spent the past 70 years in a wide rising price channel marked by each (1). And the past 25 years have seen prices test and pull back from the upper end of that channel.

The current bull market cycle has seen stocks rise sharply off the 2009 lows toward the upper end of that channel once more.

In fact, the Dow has been hovering near the topside of that price channel for several months.

But just as the Dow is kissing the top of this channel, it might be creating back-to-back “monthly” bearish ...

Yield Curve Patterns - What To Expect In 2020

Courtesy of Technical Traders

Quite a bit of information can be gleaned from the US Treasury Yield Curve charts.  There are two very interesting components that we identified from the Yield Curve charts below.  First, the bottom in late 2018 was a very important price bottom in the US markets.  That low presented a very deep bottom in the Yield Curve 30Y-10Y chart.  We believe this bottom set up a very dynamic shift in the capital markets that present the current risk factor throughout must of the rest of the world.  Second, this same December 2018 price bottom set up a very unique consolidation pattern on the 10Y-3Y Yield Curve chart.  This pattern has been seen before, in late 1997-1998 and late 2005-2008.

Oil cycle leads the stock cycle

Sure correlation is not causation, but this chart should be known by you.

We all know the world economy was waiting for a pin to prick the 'everything bubble', but no one had any idea of what the pin would look like.

Hence this is why the story of the black swan is so relevant.

There is massive debt behind the record high stock markets, there so much debt the political will required to allow central banks to print trillions to cover losses will likely effect elections. The point is printing money to cover billions is unlikely to upset anyone, however printing trillions will. In 2007 it was billions, in 202X it ...

Fascinating and important to consider, since it is probably one of the reasons why the world aristocracy is pulling its all-out putsch right now… “Trillions will be inherited over the coming decades, further widening the wealth gap,” reports the Los Angeles Times. The beneficiaries aren’t all that young themselves. From 1989 to 2016, U.S. households inherited more than $8.5 trillion. Over that time, the average age of recipients rose by a decade to 51. More ...
