In addition to the many daily trade ideas we have at Philstockworld, we also keep several virtual portfolios for education and discussion. While our virtual portfolios are a Membership exclusive, you can see some of our prior virtual portfolios and monthly trade reviews in our Portfolio Review section. Recently, our monthly trade reviews (trade ideas from Phil's morning posts and Member Chat) have been on quite a tear, as follows:
PhilStockWorld July Trade Review - Too Bearish or Just Right? (Part 1) - 42 Trade ideas, 39 winners (92%)
PhilStockWorld July Trade Review - Too Bearish or Just Right? (Part 2) - 76 Trade Ideas, 55 winners (72%)
PhilStockWorld August Trade Review - Riding the Rapids (Part 1) - 50 Trade Ideas, 42 winners (84%)
PhilStockWorld August Trade Review - Riding the Rapids (Part 2) - 56 Trade Ideas, 44 winners (78%)
Can you benefit from having good ideas to trade from? That's for you to decide. We are an educational site, teaching you how to trade Stocks, Options and Futures. We teach you how to manage your portfolio, including a concentration on ways to fix positions that go against you and how to produce an income from the positions you already have. The fact that we're also pretty good at picking trades (and yes, we teach fundamental investing strategies) is just a nice bonus!
Optrader's Swing Trading Virtual Portfolio is updated daily for active traders and market timers using Optrader's exclusive system that stresses risk management with pre-defined entry and exit points. This is backed up by Optrader's daily chat section where he discusses the trades with members and exchanges ideas on new ones as they develop. Both Phil and Optrader are available most days to chat with Premium members live and Basic members can view many of the comments and also post comments at certain hours. Phil tracks different things at different times of the year. Phil often maintains a Buy List, filled with many stocks he considers good long-term values for a market bottom, with trade ideas associated with each one that are designed for less active trading, allowing for hedged entries to ride out the swings in the market while skipping the ulcers and collecting good monthly premiums and dividends. During daily chat sessions, Phil also puts up many new trade ideas and is always happy to design ones for companies members are interested in. For Premium members, Peter has an expertise in strangles and straddles, hedged trade ideas that work in almost any market.
Many of these trade ideas are sent to Premium and Members (at the Members request) via Email and can be picked up on most mobile devices. Basic members can subscribe to alerts for an additional fee as well, choosing either Oprtader or Phil's alerts.

It ain't easy being sleazy. Just ask the execs at Mauritius-based Belvedere Management, a financial servicing firm that counts over 100 smaller hedge funds as clients that was suspended by regulators in April of this year. Or Richard Fagan, the jet-setting, polo playing head of the Kijani Fund, who saw his $130 million fund seized by Cayman Island regulators less than two month ago.
Analysts note that with the seizure of Kijani, another domino has fallen in the ongoing global Belvedere Management fraud investigation. As reported by ValueWalk at the end of March this year, Offshore Alert called Belvedere Management “an essentially criminal ent...
Deutsche Bank just can’t seem to get out of its own way and indeed, it’s becoming increasingly clear that when it comes to malfeasance, the German lender is without equal.
Just days after WSJ revealed that the bank’s $2.5 billion LIBOR settlement could be in jeopardy due to the apparent mishandling of chat records dating back to 2005 (which, incidentally, is when Anshu Jain instituted a new seating arrangement that placed LIBOR submitters next to traders), Bloomberg ...
Every month, 3D printing possibilities get increasingly elaborate.
For example (with thanks to reader Tim Wallace for the links): The Goal of MX3D is to 3D print a steel bridge. Really. With our robots that can “draw” steel structures in 3D, we will print a bridge over water in the center of Amsterdam. We research and develop groundbreaking, cost-effective robotic technology with which we can 3D print beautiful, functional objects in almost any form. The ultimate test? Printing an intricate, ornate metal bridge for a special location to show what our robots and software, engineers, craftsmen and designers can do.
The bridge will be designed by Joris Laarman. That process using new Autodesk software will be a research project in itself. It will sync with the tech...
“It’s an election about who will protect our economy in a period of ongoing global instability,” Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, announced on Sunday as he officially kicked off the campaign for the federal elections on October 19. He’d just asked Governor Gen...

This chart looks at the yield on the 30-year bond. Yields rallied strongly from the first of February to the first of July (up 30%). This strong rally in yields hit dual resistance at (1) above, which was the 38% retracement level and the bottom of a rising channel, which both came into play as resistance. Once yields hit resistance a month ago, yields have been falling and bond prices moving higher.
Now yields are attempting to break steep rising support at (2) above.

In this weekly update, I give my view of the current market environment, offer a technical analysis of the S&P 500 chart, review our weekly fundamentals-based SectorCast rankings of the ten U.S. business sectors, and then offer up some actionable trading ideas, including a sector rotation strategy using ETFs and an enhanced version using top-ranked stocks from the top-ranked sectors.
Corporate earnings reports have been mixed at best, interspersed with the occasional spectacular report -- primarily from mega-caps like Google (GOOGL), Facebook (FB), or Amazon (AMZN). Some of the bul...

Baxter Int. (BAX) is splitting off its BioSciences division into a new company called Baxalta. Shares of Baxalta will be given as a tax-free dividend, in the ratio of one to one, to BAX holders on record on June 17, 2015. That means, if you want to receive the Baxalta dividend, you need to buy the stock this week (on or before June 12).
Back in December, I wrote a post on my blog where I compared the performances of various ETFs related to the oil industry. I was looking for the best possible proxy to match the moves of oil prices if you didn't want to play with futures. At the time, I concluded that for medium term trades, USO and the leveraged ETFs UCO and SCO were the most promising. Longer term, broader ETFs like OIH and XLE might make better investment if oil prices do recover to more profitable prices since ETF linked to futures like USO, UCO and SCO do suffer from decay. It also seemed that DIG and DUG could be promising if OIH could recover as it should with the price of oil, but that they don't make a good proxy for the price of oil itself.

Last fall there was some discussion on the PSW board regarding setting up a YouCaring donation page for a PSW member, Shadowfax. Since then, we have been looking into ways to help get him additional medical services and to pay down his medical debts. After following those leads, we are ready to move ahead with the YouCaring site. (Link is posted below.) Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated; not only to help aid in his medical bill debt, but to also show what a great community this group is.
