A letter mistakenly posted briefly on the FCC website, shows AT&T (NYSE: T) would need to spend $3.8 billion to expand its 4G LTE coverage from its original plan of 80 percent of the population to almost complete coverage of 97 percent, according to Wireless Week.
Supporters of the deal have all cited the company’s expansion plan for the extra LTE coverage as one of the main reasons the FCC and Justice Department should allow the $39 billion merger of the two phone companies.
AT&T plans to have the network “largely complete” by the end of 2013.
