The following are the M&A deals, rumors and chatter circulating on Wall Street for Wednesday February 29, 2012:

Hearing Samsung in Talks to Acquire Research in Motion

The Rumor:
Hearing Samsung (SSNLF) is in advanced talks to acqure Research in Motion (NASDAQ: RIMM) for $27 per share, according to sources. This same pairing was rumored previously on January 18, when it was tweeted by BGR.com. A Samsung spokesperson quickly denied that rumor.

A representative for Research in Motion would not comment on the speculated deal. A Samsung spokesperson could not be reached for comment.

Research in Motion closed at $14.17 Wednesday, a loss of 2.31% on 65% of the average daily volume.

Hearing Stec Could be a Takeover Target

The Rumor:
Stec (NASDAQ: STEC) could be a takeover target at current price level, according to FBN Securities. Stec has fallen from a high of $41.75 in September 2009, to its current level near $10.

A Stec spokesperson was not available for comment.

Stec closed at $9.69 Wednesday, a gain of 3.97% on 4 times the average daily volume.

Hearing Dell May be Targeting Opnet Technologies

The Rumor:
Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) may be considering a purchase of Opnet Technologies (NASDAQ: OPNT), according to dealReporter. Dell acquired AppAssure on February 24 and is reported to be seeking other acquisitions.

Representatives of Dell and Opnet were not available for comment.

Opnet closed at $28.55 Wednesday, a loss of 2.59% on 59% of the average daily volume.
