Hearing Warner Chilcott Gets Takeover Bid from Bayer
The Rumor:
Shares of Warner Chilcott (NASDAQ: WCRX) rose sharply early Friday on a report in the The Times of London that Bayer was making an offer to acquire the Dublin, Ireland based pharmaceutical company for $32 per share. Call volume for WCRX was at 669% of the daily average.
Spokespersons for Warner Chilcott and Bayer were not available for comment.
Warner Chilcott closed at $18.79 Friday, a gain of almost 8% on 5.5 times the average daily volume.
Hearing Renewed Chatter of AstraZeneca Interest in Amarin
The Rumor:
Amarin (NASDAQ: AMRN) once again was mentioned as a potential takeover target of AstraZeneca (NYSE: AZN) Friday, according to sources. On Wednesday, Bloomberg reported that AstraZeneca was looking at several companies as possible acquisition targets, including Amarin and Forest Labs (NYSE: FRX).
Spokespersons for Amarin and AstraZeneca could not be reached for comment on the rumor.
Amarin closed at $12.01 Friday, a gain of 2.65% on slightly more than the average daily volume.
