First Solar to Acquire TetraSun
The Deal:
First Solar (NYSE: FSLR) announced Tuesday it is acquiring TetraSun, a solar photovoltaic technology startup. Terms were not disclosed. The deal is expected to close in Q2 2013. First Solar and JX Nippon Oil & Energy have entered into discussions on an agreement to distribute the technology in Japan.
First Solar shares surged sharply higher Tuesday on strong guidance.
First Solar closed at $39.42 Tuesday, a gain of 45% on 8 times average volume.
Hearing Unconfirmed Market Chatter of Nuance Hiring of Goldman Sachs as Adviser
The Rumor:
Shares of Nuance Communications (NASDAQ: NUAN) spiked higher mid-morning on renewed takeover chatter. The company is rumored to have hired Goldman Sachs as an adviser to explore strategic alternatives, including a possible sale.
A spokesperson for Nuance was not available for comment.
Nuance Communications closed at $20.96 Tuesday, a gain of 3% on 1.5 times average volume.
GAIN Capital Board to Consider Proposal from FXCM
The Offer:
The Board of Directors of GAIN Capital (NYSE: GCAP) announced Tuesday that it received FXCM’s (NYSE: FXCM) letter dated April 8, 2013, which contains a proposal to acquire GAIN for 0.3996 shares of FXCM Class A common stock for each share of GAIN common stock.
The GAIN Capital Board indicated it will consider the proposal.
GAIN Capital closed at $5.27 Tuesday, a gain of 23% on 12 times average volume.
