After 34 years of operating, maintaining, and repairing marine power plants, I had the same experience over and over. In fact, I was once fired because I would not sign off on work not done, or substituted material out of the specification. True, qualified, and talented engineers are rare in society. It is not a glamorous field, earning power is fixed, and frequently such experts are made to be subservient to junior accountants, and those trying to gain favor by low balling everything.
Politics-in the broadest sense-and engineering do not mix, the former being composed of broadly inferior people contra the latter.
