Amazon says displaying tariff cost ‘not going to happen’ after White House blowback

Amazon said Tuesday it considered displaying import charges on items sold via its site for ultradiscount items, but that the plan “was never approved and not going to happen.”

The move would have affected items sold on Haul, Amazon’s answer to Chinese discount retailer Temu, which offers apparel, home goods and other items priced at $20 or less. Haul, which Amazon launched last year, is separate from its main storefront.

The Trump administration called Amazon’s decision to display tariff costs on product pages a “hostile and political act” this morning. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt delivered the accusation on Fox & Friends when confronted about who actually pays for the president’s tariff policies.

Amazon’s move strips away the administration’s preferred narrative. By showing consumers the specific dollar amount Trump’s tariffs add to each purchase, they expose the direct consumer impact the White House wants hidden.

Trump officials keep repeating, “the Biden inflation”. While Biden did contribute to inflation, inflation started due to Covid and Trump’s response to it. Trump’s tariffs will make inflation worse again. Prices won’t lie.

Now it looks like Amazon’s willingness provide truth to consumers lasted less than minute because the de facto dictator objected.
