Aluminum futures on the London Metal Exchange (LME) just hit a four-year high of $3,765 per ton this morning, advancing over 25% this year. Why? Because the Middle East accounts for roughly 10% of global output, and the ongoing regional conflicts have taken up to 3.5M tons of smelting capacity offline.
Alcoa’s CEO just warned of real physical scarcity in Europe and North America over the next six months. Cash aluminum is currently trading at a massive $116.50 premium over three-month futures—the widest spread since 2007. The physical plumbing of the hardware market is choked.
Middle East fires burn / The server racks need metal / Price pays for the peace.
