3 Gold Stocks to Shine This Earnings Season – Earnings ESP

Credit Suisse issued a gold sector report Monday and named its top picks.

Analyst Anita Soni prefered Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd (USA) (NYSE: AEM) with a $35 target price “for its lower cost assets, operational consistency, strong FCF and growth in 2015.”

Eldorado Gold Corp (USA) (NYSE: EGO) with an $8 price target was preferred “for its strong balance sheet and organic growth opportunities.”

Goldcorp Inc. (USA) (NYSE: GG) with a $24 price target was the “preferred senior stock on a 12-month view for its relatively strong balance sheet and growth.”

Franco-Nevada Corporation (NYSE: FNV) with a $61 price target was the “preferred defensive gold stock due to its royalty/streaming model and ability to execute on accretive acquisitions.”

Overall, the firm was positive on gold equities for 2015. Soni saw “outperformance driven by (i) margin expansion; (ii) gold price stability; and (iii) renewed interest in the space (potential sector rotation and M&A).”

“Gold equities represent an investment in a commodity more tied to global monetary policy and consumer demand in emerging markets (in particular China and India) than alternatives in the commodity complex. Alternatives for resource investors such as oil, base metals and iron ore face the challenge of a more recent commodity price correction, the implications of which may not yet be fully priced into the stocks,” according to the analyst report.

All of the above top picks were up over 3 percent Monday with Eldorado Gold leading the group, trading up 4.01 percent at $7.01.

JP Morgan Sees 'Neutral Impact' On Hewlett-Packard And Corning At CES 2015

Marvell Technology Group Ltd. (NASDAQ: MRVL) is keeping investors in suspense about a supposedly "game-changing" technology planned for the current quarter, an analyst said Monday.

FBR's Christopher Rolland speculated the technology may integrate radio frequency into the computer component maker's cellular mobile platform.

Rolland, who made the comment in a research note following his attendance at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, also said Marvell was equally tight-lipped about recent rumors it may sell its wireless unit.

Rolland maintained a Market Perform rating on Marvell, and said the company was "extremely optimistic" that its wireless unit can maintain its 30 percent market share for fourth-generation chips in China, and that it can double the volume of units sold there during 2015.

The optimism suggests that Marvell won't sell the unit for a discounted price of $500 million or less, Rolland said.

Rolland further speculated that Marvell could enter the market for ARM servers later this year.

Hewlett-Packard Company (NASDAQ: HPQ) recently became the first major vendor to offer an ARM server, with Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) and Dell Computer reportedly studying similar moves.

If Marvell obtains a license on the technology, it could prove a boon to ARM Holdings plc (NASDAQ: ARMH), Rolland said.

Marvell closed Monday at $15.92, down 0.69 percent.

JP Morgan’s Rod Hall on Monday commented that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) has now caught up with domestic iPhone 6 demand, as consumers will no longer be forced to wait when purchasing an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.

According to Hall’s checks at Apple retail outlets in the Southern U.S., only the sim-free iPhone 6 Plus comes with a lead time of just one day. The analyst adds that other than the sim-free device, all configurations are listed as “in stock.”

However, Hall notes that this development has a neutral impact to shares. The analyst notes that this development is consistent with the company’s commentary during its fourth quarter conference call where the company indicated that iPhone supply demand should reach a balance by the end of 2014.

Shares of Apple recently traded at $110.02, down 1.7 percent.

Week Ahead: Bank Earnings, Inflation Reports (Fox Business)

Alcoa Inc (NYSE: AA) will benefit from stabilized profit margins in its packaging business as well as accelerating growth in its automotive sector, an analyst said Monday.

Nomura's Curt Woodworth upgraded Alcoa to Buy and boosted his price target on the company 23 percent to $23 a share.

The aluminum producer changed hands recently at $16.11, unchanged.

Alcoa is set to post fourth-quarter and full-year results after Monday's bell.

Woodworth raised his 2014 estimate to $0.91 a share, from $0.80 a share; analysts on average expect 2014 earnings of $1 a share.

Alcoa's packaging segment, which mostly makes aluminum cans, has seen its capacity displaced by the company's automotive segment, according to Woodworth.

This trend "should stabilize packaging margins" Woodworth said, while significant growth in automotive should increase the company's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization.

Meanwhile, a strong dollar will add $0.20 a share in annual earnings, Woodworth said.

"With [Alcoa's] earnings set to be released this week, the stock has two key prices to watch," CMT Christian Tharp told Benzinga. "First, a break above the resistance area surrounding $17.50 should lead to higher prices for the stock. However, a break below $15 on a bad earnings report could lead to much lower prices for [Alcoa]."

Americans' Economic Hope Has Collapsed

Courtesy of ZeroHedge. View original post here.

Which came first, the confidence or the stock market rally?

One thing is for sure, the crash in stocks in December has crushed the hope of Americans that their economic future is going to be better under President Trump.

Overall confidence dipped to 58.1 - a 4-month low, but, U.S. consumers this month were the most downbeat on the economy since November 2016, a third straight drop after expectations reached a 16-year high just three months earlier, as the partial government shutdown wears on toward a fourth week.

Triple Breakout Test In Play For S&P 500!

Is the rally of late about to run out of steam or is a major breakout about to take place in the S&P 500? What happens at current prices should go a long way in determining this question.

This chart looks at the equal weight S&P 500 ETF (RSP) on a daily basis over the past 15-months.

The rally from the lows on Christmas Eve has RSP testing the top of a newly formed falling channel while testing the underneath side of the 2018 trading range and its falling 50-day moving average at (1).

At this time RPS is facing a triple resistance test. Wil...

Brexit deal flops, Theresa May survives -- so what happens now?

As the clock ticks down to March 29 2019, all of the political manoeuvring, negotiating, arguing and fighting is coming to a peak. In the two and a half years since the 2016 EU referendum, views on both sides have hardened and agreement still seems as far away as it was the day after the referendum.

With Theresa May’s withdrawal agreement disliked by all sides, and voted down by an unprecedented majority in the House of Commons, everyone is wondering what can and should be done next?

Weekly Market Recap Jan 13, 2019

In last week’s recap we asked:  “Has the Fed solved all the market’s problems in 1 speech?”

Thus far the market says yes!  As Guns n Roses preached – all we need is a little “patience”.  Four up days followed by a nominal down day Friday had the market following it’s normal pattern the past nearly 30 years – jumping whenever the Federal Reserve hints (or essentially says outright) it is here for the markets.   And in case you missed it the prior Friday, Chairman Powell came back out Thursday to reiterate the news – so…so… so… patient!

Fed Chairman Jerome Powell reinforced that message Thursday during a discussion at the Economic Club of Washington where he said that the central bank will be “fle...
