World Record Wednesday – S&P Ironically Makes 1984

SPY 5 MINUTE1984!

As I pointed out in our Member Chat Room this morning, there is a Bloomberg article this morning on the CPI report that says:

The cost of living in the U.S. rose at a slower pace in June and home sales climbed to an eight-month high, showing the economy is generating little price pressure as growth accelerates.

But growth is NOT accelerating, is it?  We JUST had a GDP report that showed exactly the opposite, yet here we have a noted MSM publication simply ignoring that FACT:

How do people read these things and just accept them?  How do authors write them?  How do editors OK them?  Not even the commenters seem to catch it – it's like the whole World just accepts the BS of the moment.

This is what Orwell predicted it would be like in a future where the media became electronic and the past was instantly forgotten by a population that was unable to think for itself.

It took them 30 more years than planned, but here we are!

"And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed -if all records told the same tale — then the lie passed into history and became truth. 'Who controls the past,' ran the Party slogan, 'controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.' And yet the past, though of its nature alterable, never had been altered. Whatever was true now was true from everlasting to everlasting. It was quite simple. All that was needed was an unending series of victories over your own memory. 'Reality control', they called it: in Newspeak, 'doublethink'.

"The past, he reflected, had not merely been altered, it had been actually destroyed. For how could you establish even

News Corp Options Active After Earnings

Today’s tickers: NWSA, IYR & CTRP

NWSA - News Corporation – Trading traffic in News Corp call options in the early going on Thursday indicate some traders are positioning for the price of the underlying to continue marching to fresh record highs in the near term. The stock today increased as much as 6.8%, hitting a new all-time high of $34.04 after the global media company reported third-quarter net income that topped average analyst estimates. Traders looking for the up-trend to extend into next week snapped up front month calls, picking up around 200 calls at the May $34 strike at a premium of $0.25 each, and buying roughly 500 calls at the May $35 strike for an average premium of $0.15 per contract. Call buyers stand ready to profit at expiration next week should shares in News Corp rally another 3.8% and 6.5% over the current price of $33.00 to surpass average breakeven points at $34.25 and $35.15, respectively. Shares in News Corp, which plans to split into two companies, are up roughly 65% since this time last year.

IYR - iShares Dow Jones U.S. Real Estate Index ETF – Shares in the IYR, an ETF that provides exposure to U.S. real estate stocks and REITs, slipped 0.40% today to $73.90, after earlier this week trading up to a record high of $74.31 on the heels of a more than 15% rally since this time last year. The fund popped up on our ‘most active by options volume’ market scanner during the first half hour of the session following a large trade in the June expiry put options. It looks like one strategist purchased a block of 25,000 puts at the Jun $72 strike for a premium of $0.55 apiece. The trade makes money if shares in the IYR decline more than 3.0% from the current level to trade below the effective breakeven price of $71.45 by June expiration. The Jun $72 strike puts were active last week as well, with roughly 10,000 contracts purchased last Wednesday…

Weekly Calls Prescribe Further Gains In Pfizer Shares

Today’s tickers: PFE, NWSA & CHS

PFE - Pfizer, Inc. – Weekly options changing hands on drug maker, Pfizer, Inc., in the early going on Thursday are looking for shares to potentially extend their move to the upside next week. Shares in PFE are up 2.3% this morning, trading at a new five-year high of $27.28 ahead of the company’s fourth-quarter earnings report on Tuesday. Traders positioning for Pfizer’s shares to rally during the next six trading sessions snapped up around 500 in-the-money calls at the Feb. 01 ’13 $27 strike for an average premium of $0.29 apiece. Upside call volume is more substantial at the higher Feb. 01 ’13 $27.5 strike, where some 3,100 contracts are in play against zero open positions. Most of the $27.5 strike weekly calls appear to have been purchased for an average premium of $0.09 each, thus positioning buyers to profit at expiration next week should the price of the underlying rise another 1.1% to top the average breakeven point at $27.59.

NWSA - News Corp. – A large one-by-two ratio call spread initiated on News Corp. this morning suggests the stock may see limited, albeit substantial, gains during the next six months. Shares in New Corp., roughly flat on the session to stand at $27.38 as of 11:55 a.m. ET, have increased more than 45% since this time last year to trade near their highest level in more than a decade. The single-largest transaction in NWSA options today combines the purchase of 6,250 calls at the July $28 strike for a premium of $1.40 each, with the sale of 12,500 calls at the July $30 strike at a premium of $0.55 apiece. Net premium paid to establish the sizable spread amounts to $0.30 per contract. The bullish position makes money if shares in NWSA rally 3.4% over the current price of $27.38 to surpass the effective breakeven point at $28.30, with maximum potential profits of $1.70 per contract available should the price of the underlying rise 9.6% to settle at $30.00 at July expiration.…

Hewlett-Packard Options Point To Possible Rebound

Today’s tickers: HPQ, NWSA & RRC

HPQ - Hewlett-Packard Co. – Bullish trading in Hewlett-Packard options this morning suggests some traders are positioning for a rebound in battered shares of the tech giant. The stock snapped a four-day losing streak on Tuesday, rallying 2.1% to $21.50 by midday in New York, following the better-than-expected ISM non-manufacturing index report this morning. Shares in HPQ have lost nearly 30.0% of their value since mid-February. Traders picking up in-the-money calls in the July expiry are prepared to benefit should shares in Hewlett continue to recover during the next six weeks. More than 11,500 calls have changed hands at the July $21 strike against open interest of 3,028 positions. It looks like most of the contracts were purchased for an average premium of $1.36 apiece, thus positioning buyers to profit at expiration should HPQ’s shares rally another 4.0% to surpass the average breakeven point at $22.36.

NWSA - News Corp. – A sizable trade in News Corp. call options today appears to be a bet against any significant rally in shares of the international media company during the next eight trading sessions. The stock is currently flat on the day at $18.59 as of 12:15 p.m. ET. News Corp. popped up on our ‘hot by options volume’ market scanner this morning after some 8,295 June $19 strike calls were sold at a premium of $0.20 apiece. The strategy results in maximum possible profits of $0.20 per contract should the options expire worthless next week. Naked short calls leave the seller vulnerable to unlimited losses to the upside in the event of a rally in the price of the underlying above the effective breakeven price of $19.20, however, it’s possible the strategist is long the stock and selling covered rather than uncovered calls against the position. Shares in News Corp. have declined 10.2% in the past four weeks, but need only rally 3.3% over the current price of $18.59 to…

News Corp. Options Predict Pie In The Face For Bears

Today’s tickers: NWSA, OIH, FRX & NVLS

NWSA - News Corp. – The phone hacking scandal that dragged Rupert Murdoch’s media empire through the mud won’t stifle shares in News Corp. forever, by the looks of one massive transaction in long-dated call options this morning. Shares in NWSA dropped more than 25.0% to as low as $13.38 in the weeks following well-publicized allegations that News of the World hacked murder victim Milly Dowler’s mobile phone. Efforts by Murdoch & Murdoch to apologize for actions they said occurred without their knowledge at the company’s tabloid, as well as other steps taken recently to soothe investor concerns, helped shares in NWSA recover in August. The stock still stands roughly 14.0% off its highest point in July, after slipping 1.3% during today’s session to $15.98 as of 12:00 pm in New York.

Huge prints in January 2013 contract call options on the media company within 30 minutes of the opening bell today suggests one big player sees shares in News Corp. not only recovering over the next year and a half, but also possibly rising to their highest since 2000. Just before 10:00 am ET, a QCC order to buy a 50,000-lot Jan. 2013 $20/$25 call spread at a net premium of $0.90 per contract was entered at the PHLX. The QCC order, which allows valid and executable orders to immediately cross upon arrival with no auction, protects the anonymity of the trader and involves a stock component executed away from the Exchange on which the options were crossed. It is unclear what the stock component is at this time, but it’s worth noting that such knowledge could alter one’s interpretation of the transaction. Keeping that disclaimer in mind, it appears the call spread is looking for shares in News Corp. to…

News Corp. Calls Active As Murdoch & Murdoch Meet With U.K. Lawmakers

Today’s tickers: NWSA, WFC, TGT & MAS

NWSA - News Corp. – The hours of testimony provided by Rupert and James Murdoch to U.K. lawmakers today had a positive effect on shares in News Corp., which increased 5.8% to $15.84 after the questioning ended. The phone-hacking scandal had pushed shares in the diversified global media company down roughly 18.0% in the past couple of weeks to as low as $14.76 on Monday. The future is bright for shares in News Corp. according to some optimists dabbling in January 2012 contract call options today. Calls on NWSA are far more active than puts, with investors exchanging more than 3.5 calls on the stock for each single put option. Volume is heaviest at the Jan. 2012 $16 strike where upwards of 16,200 call options changed hands against open interest of 3,679 contracts. It looks like the vast majority of these calls were purchased for an average premium of $1.46 a-pop. Call buyers profit if shares in News Corp. rally another 10.2% over today’s high of $15.84 to surpass the average breakeven point at $17.46 by expiration day next year. Trading in the Jan. 2012 $19 strike is congested, as well. Around 10,500 calls have traded at that strike so far today, with some 4,000 contracts purchased for an average premium of $0.48 apiece, and another 5,500 trading to the middle of the market. Open interest in the Jan. 2012 $19 strike call is sufficient to cover volume generated at that strike today, which may mean buyers are closing rather than opening positions. Nearly 40,000 option contracts have changed hands on the media company as of 1:15 pm in New York.

WFC - Wells Fargo & Co. – Record profits reported by San Francisco, CA-based Wells Fargo this morning pushed shares in the financial…

How The Globalism Con Game Leads To A 'New World Order'

Courtesy of ZeroHedge. View original post here.

Authored by Brandon Smith via Alt-Market.com,

When globalists speak publicly about a “new world order” they are speaking about something very specific and rather sacred in their little cult of elitism. It is not simply the notion that civilization shifts or changes abruptly on its own; rather, it is their name for a directed and engineered vision - a world built according to their rules, not a world that evolved naturally according to necessity.

S&P To Test 200-day MA

Courtesy of Declan

After yesterday's selling today's late recovery was a chance for bulls to catch some breadth.

The S&P came close to tagging the 200-day MA on the intraday low. The index is on a path to the lower channel. There was no technical change and relative performance remains weak.

The Nasdaq stalled mid-decline. Today's doji did not appear at a natural support level and the 200-day MA still looks the better support test but aggressive longs may try fish for a position here with a stop on a loss of 6,926.

Buffett At His Best

By csinvesting. Originally published at ValueWalk.

Bear with me as I share a bit of my history that helped me create SkyVu and the Battle Bears games. The University of Nebraska gave me my first job after college. I mostly pushed TV carts around, edited videos for professors or the occasional speaker event. One day, Warren Buffet came to campus to speak to the College of Business. I didn’t think much of this speech at the time but I saved it for some reason. 15 years later, as a founder of my own company, I watch and listen to this particular speech every year to remind myself of the fundamentals and values Mr. Buffett looks for. He’s addressing business students at his alma mater, so I think his style here is a bit more ‘close to home’ than in his other speeches. Hopefully many of you find great value in this video like I have. Sorry for the VHS...

The Stock Bull Market Stops Here!

The Stock Bull Market Stops Here!

The definition of a bull market or bull trends widely vary. One of the more common criteria for bull markets is determined by the asset being above or below its 200 day moving average.

In my humble opinion, each index above remains in a bull trend, as triple support (200-day moving averages, 2-year rising support lines, and February lows) are still in play ...

The tricks propagandists use to beat science

Via Jean-Luc

How propagandist beat science – they did it for the tobacco industry and now it's in favor of the energy companies:

The tricks propagandists use to beat science

The original tobacco strategy involved several lines of attack. One of these was to fund research that supported the industry and then publish only the results that fit the required narrative. “For instance, in 1954 the TIRC distributed a pamphlet entitled ‘A Scientific Perspective on the Cigarette Controversy’ to nearly 200,000 doctors, journalists, and policy-makers, in which they emphasized favorable research and questioned results supporting the contrary view,” say Weatherall and co, who call this approach biased production.

A second approach promoted independent research that happened to support ...
