Louisiana Pacific Put Options Active

LPX – Louisiana Pacific Corporation – Shares in the manufacturer of engineered wood building materials are sprinting higher on Thursday, rallying nearly 15% during morning trading to an intraday high of $17.47, after Louisiana Pacific yesterday announced it will acquire Ainsworth Lumber Co. for C$3.76 per Ainsworth common share in a deal valued at approximately USD $1.1 billion, according to a press release issued by the company. LPX was raised to ‘Buy’ from ‘Neutral’ at DA Davidson with a 12-month target price of $20.00 a share today. Trading in November expiry put options this morning suggests one trader may be unraveling a sizable long position in the contracts. Roughly 10,000 of the Nov $16 puts appear to have been sold this morning at an average premium of $0.81 each against open interest of 10,342 contracts. Time and sales data indicates most of the open contracts were purchased at a volume-weighted average price of $1.65 between August 13th and August 21st. The sale of the puts this morning could represent the unraveling of the long put position following the sharp move in the price of the underlying today.

TWI – Titan International, Inc. – Put options purchased on the maker of wheels and tires for off-the-road equipment used in the agriculture, construction, forestry and mining industries this morning look for shares in Titan International to slump to fresh 52-week lows during the next six weeks. Shares today are in positive territory at present, up 0.20% at $16.05 as of 11:55 a.m. ET, though the stock is down more than 20% since this time last year. One trader stepped in to buy 1,000 of the Oct $15 puts during the first 15 minutes of the session, paying a premium of $0.55 for most of the contracts. The put options may be profitable at expiration next month in the event that shares in Titan International decline 10% from the current price to trade below the breakeven point at $14.45. The stock last traded below $14.45 in October of 2011.

Bullish Predictions Payoff For Skechers Call Buyers

Today’s tickers: SKX, RCL, OSK & TWI

SKX - Skechers USA, Inc. – The footwear designer’s decision to purge inventory of some 2 million pairs of its Shape-ups sneakers in exchange for a $21 million loss pleased investors reviewing the somewhat ugly second-quarter earnings report released from Skechers USA on Wednesday. Shares in the Manhattan Beach, CA-based company sky-rocketed 25.0% on Thursday morning to an intraday high of $17.88 despite the shoe retailer’s reported net loss of $0.62 a share on 14% lower revenue for the quarter. Steps taken by the company to clear out inventory as well as promising international growth prospects seem to have overshadowed weaker-than-expected top- and bottom-line results. Bullish momentum in the shares was also aided by an analyst at BB&T Capital Markets who raised Skechers to ‘Buy’ from ‘Hold’ with a 12-month target share price of $18.00.

On Monday we noted bullish call buying taking place in the September and October contracts, and suggested traders long those calls may benefit from a post-earnings pop in the price of the underlying. Lo-and-behold, shares are soaring and some investors have seen the value of their positions more than double this week. For example, traders purchased around 2,200 October $15 strike calls on Monday for an average premium of $1.07 apiece. Today investors could turn around and sell those calls for an average premium of $2.65 a-pop, or hold onto their positions in the hope that shares continue to rally in the next few months. Like-minded bulls picked up around 500 of the September $15 strike calls on Monday at an average premium of $0.85 each, while the last-traded price on the contract now stands at $2.35.…

My Chart o’ the Day comes from LPL’s Ryan Detrick, who notes that:

Many consider this bull market the greatest ever, given it has incredibly lasted more than 10 years. But in terms of magnitude, many would be surprised to hear that the 357% gain during this bull market is still beneath the record 417% gain seen during the 1990s.

This bull market also isn’t the strongest in history in terms of gains, even though it has lasted longer than any other bull market…On an annualized return basis, this bull market has gained 15.3%, which is actual...

Is Bitcoin a Macro Asset?

As part of Coindesk’s popup podcast series centered around today’s Invest conference, I answered a few questions for Nolan Bauerly about Bitcoin from a wealth management perspective. I decided in December of 2017 that investing directly into crypto currencies was unnecessary and not a good use of a portfolio’s allocation slots. I remain in this posture today but I am openminded about how this may change in the future.

Silver Testing This Support For The First Time In 8-Years!

Courtesy of Chris Kimble

Its been a good while since Silver bulls could say that it is testing support. Well, this week that can be said! Will this support test hold? Silver Bulls sure hope so!

This chart looks at Silver Futures over the past 10-years. Silver has spent the majority of the past 8-years inside of the pink shaded falling channel, as it has created lower highs and lower lows.

Silver broke above the top of this falling channel around 90-days ago at (1). It quickly rallied over 15%, before creating a large bearish reversal pattern, around 5-weeks after the bre...

Gold Gann and Cycle Review

Courtesy of Read the Ticker

Gold has performed well, golden skies are here again. In fact it has been a straight line move, and this is typically unusual and a pause can be expected.

It seems the markets are happy again, new highs in the SP500, US 10 year interest rates look to re bound, negative interest may soften. The US FED has reversed their QT and now doing $250BN (not QE) repo. The main point is the FED has stopped QT, and will do QE forever. The evidence now is the FED put is under market risk and the possibility of excessive losses do not exist.

Point: If in future if there is market risk, the FED will print it's way out of it.
Subject To: In this blog view. The above is so until the amount required rocks confidence in the US dollar as a reserve currency.&n...

Today's Fed POMO TOMO FOMC Alphabet Soup Unspin

But make no mistake, if the Fed wants money rates to stay down by another quarter, it will need to imagineer even more money.

That’s on top of the $281 billion it has already imagineered into existence since addressing its “one-off” repo market emergency on September 17. This came via  “Temporary” Repo Man Operations money, and $70.6 billion in Permanent Open Market Operations (POMO) money.

By my calculations that averages out to $7.4 billion per business day. That works out to a monthly pace of $155 billion or so.

If they keep this up, it will be more than enough to absorb every penny of new Treasury supply. That supply had caused the system to run out of money in mid September.  This flood of paper had been inundati...

Despacito - How to Make Money the Old-Fashioned Way - SLOWLY!

Are you ready to retire?

For most people, the purpose of investing is to build up enough wealth to allow you to retire.  In general, that's usually enough money to reliably generate a year's worth of your average income, each year into your retirement so that that, plus you Social Security, should be enough to pay your bills without having to draw down on your principle.

Unfortunately, as the last decade has shown us, we can't count on bonds to pay us more than 3% and the average return from the stock market over the past 20 years has been erratic - to say the least - with 4 negative years (2000, 2001, 2002 and 2008) and 14 positives, though mostly in the 10% range on the positives.  A string of losses like we had from 2000-02 could easily wipe out a decades worth of gains.

Still, the stock market has been better over the last 10 (7%) an...
