Ohio residents could get more stimulus money soon as the House recently voted to release another round of federal stimulus. The legislation that the House approved may be used to give stimulus checks from Ohio. Specifically, the legislation calls for giving funds to Ohio’s cities, villages and townships.
Stimulus Checks From Ohio: Local Governments To Get Money
Last week, the Ohio House passed House Bill 377, which calls for giving $442 million from the money that the state got from the American Rescue Plan to Ohio’s cities, villages and townships. The cities, villages and townships with 50,000 or fewer residents will get the stimulus money.

Specifically, the money would be distributed depending on the population of the cities, villages and townships. The cities, villages and townships will have to spend the money to directly reimburse costs incurred in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its related economic effects. Any money that remains unspent by the end of the state’s 2023 fiscal year would be returned.
The Republican-controlled Ohio House approved the bill 75-9. All “no” votes came from the chamber’s most conservative Republicans.
Ohio got more than $5.4 billion from the American Rescue Plan Act, which was approved last year by President Joe Biden. Moreover, $6.6 billion was sent directly to larger Ohio cities.
Local governments in Ohio received $442 million at the time of the first round of funding last year. This bill 377, which enjoys the support of the Valley’s Statehouse representatives, now moves to the Ohio Senate for approval. It would also need to be approved by Gov. Mike DeWine’s signature to become law.
“I’m thankful to the bill sponsors for their diligent work on getting this bill passed,” said State Representative Mark Johnson (R-Chillicothe). “This funding is going to be important to the 92nd House District as Ohio continues to recover from the pandemic.”
Other States Sending Stimulus Checks
Many other states are also working on giving stimulus checks to residents. Maine, for instance, plans to send $850 relief checks to about 858,000 people across the state to help them offset the “pandemic-driven inflation.” To be eligible for the stimulus checks, individuals must have filed their tax return by October 31 as full-time Maine residents.
New Mexico has also approved tax rebates that are expected to roll out over the next month. Single filers (and married individuals filing separately) will get a tax rebate of $500, while joint filers, heads of households and surviving spouses will get $1,000. Taxpayers, who have filed their 2021 returns by May 31, will get the payment automatically.
“This summer we’ll be returning hundreds of millions of dollars in relief to families around New Mexico, protecting their paychecks and helping them cope with the rising prices of gas, groceries and other household expenses,” said Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.
