Traders Build Up Bullish Positions on IBM Corp.

Today’s tickers: IBM, CHSI, TCB & BC

IBM - International Business Machines Corp. – Bulls positioning for shares in IBM to extend gains flocked to the options market today, populating weekly as well as longer-dated expiries with signs of optimism. Shares in the computer services company increased as much as 3.35% during the session to secure an intraday- and new all-time high of $167.72. The stock jumped after a number of analysts raised their share price targets in the aftermath of IBM’s analyst meeting on Tuesday. Investors expecting the uptrend to continue at least through the end of this week purchased March $165 and $170 strike calls, and sold nearly 2,000 of the March $165 strike puts in the weekly contract set to expire on Friday. Bullish sentiment spread to the March contract call options set to expire on the 18th of this month, with investors buying around 2,000 in-the-money calls at the March $165 strike for an average premium of $2.60 each. Call volume is greatest at the higher March $170 strike where more than 9,950 calls changed hands on open interest of 5,480 contracts. It looks like the majority of the calls were purchased for an average premium of $0.62 apiece. Investors long the higher-strike calls are poised to profit should shares in IBM rally another 1.7% to surpass the average breakeven price of $170.62 by expiration day. IBM is scheduled to report first-quarter earnings after the market closes for the day on April 18, 2011.

CHSI - Catalyst Health Solutions, Inc. – Options on the full-service pharmacy benefit management (PBM) company are active today on news it agreed to purchase Walgreen Company’s PBM business for $525 million. Shares in Catalyst Health Solutions jumped 18.3% during the session to hit an intraday and all-time high of $52.69. One options player appears to have nearly doubled his money in the span of three weeks by taking profits on a bullish stance initiated back on February 16, 2011, when shares in CHSI closed at $45.65. It…

Financial ETF Sees Sizeable Bull Call Spread

Today’s tickers: XLF, NKE, SLV, WAG, CVS, PSS, RYL & TCB

XLF - A large bullish trade just went across the tape on the Amex in the financial sector ETF in which a 50,000 lot call spread traded in the XLF at a 27 cent premium involving 17 and 19 strike calls. The underlying share price of $15.08 would need to rally 14.5% over the course of the next three months to allow this investor to break even. We make it mid-October last year that the XLF share price last popped above $17, while recent overhead resistance has restrained the bulls at $15.50. – Financial Select Sector SPDR –

NKE - Call options on the maker of footwear and apparel were in high demand today with shares of NKE up 1.8% to $60.02. Nike is schedule to release results for the first quarter after the closing bell today. Analysts are expecting the firm to report 97 cents per share on revenue of $4.9 billion. Option traders exchanged more than 17,400 calls at the October 60 strike on existing open interest at the strike of just 6,900 contracts. Approximately 8,100 of the calls were purchased for an average premium of 1.78 apiece. The October 60 strike calls have managed to land in-the-money this afternoon. However, investors long the calls will not begin to amass profits unless the stock rises another 3% to breach the breakeven point at $61.78. Another 6,050 calls were exchanged at the higher October 65 strike for an average premium of 40 cents apiece. The higher strike calls were both bought and sold by investors placing bets on Nike ahead of first-quarter earnings results. – Nike, Inc. –

SLV - One investor initiated a long-term bullish play on the silver exchange-traded fund amid a slight 0.25% dip in shares to $15.88. The trader looked to the November 16 strike to purchase 14,000 calls for an average premium of 90 cents apiece. At the same time, the investor spread the nearer-term purchase against the sale of 14,000 calls at the January 2012 20 strike for 2.80 per contract. The trader pockets a net credit of 1.90 per contract on the transaction. The investor is likely expecting the calls to land in-the-money by expiration in November. If this occurs, he may exercise the options and take delivery of the underlying shares for an effective price of $14.10 [$16.00 – 1.90 = $14.10]. If…

TRUMP CONCEDES (SORT OF)

TRUMP CONCEDES (SORT OF)

Courtesy of Teri Kanefield

The Trump Legal team filed more documents today in the appellate court. I tweeted a bit about how silly they were (let me know if you all want me to march through them). Then this happened:

Trump giving the go-ahead for the transition to get underway was (I believe) the closest he will get to conceding the election. Two amusing things happened. First, Trump tweeted this about 10 minutes after Emily Murphy submitted a letter saying she would move forward, and that she has made her decisions solely on her own and not at anyone’s direction. Looks like Trump wanted people to think that she was, in fact, acting at his direction.

The other amusing part was that Tr...

COVID-19 Forces More Than Half of Asset Management Firms to Accelerate Adoption of Digital Marketing Technology

By Jacob Wolinsky. Originally published at ValueWalk.

There is no doubt that the use of technology to support client engagement initiatives brings both opportunities and threats but this has been brought into sharp focus this year with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The crisis has brought to the fore the need for firms to enable flexibility in client engagement – the expectation that providers will communicate to clients on their terms, at their speed and frequency and on their preferred channels, is now a given. This is even more critical when clients are experiencing unparalleled anxiety from both market conditions and their own personal circumstances.

Adaptive Fibonacci Price Modeling System Suggests Market Peak May Be Near

Courtesy of Technical Traders

Our Adaptive Fibonacci Price Modeling system is suggesting a moderate price peak may be already setting up in the NASDAQ while the Dow Jones, S&P500, and Transportation Index continue to rally beyond the projected Fibonacci Price Expansion Levels.  This indicates that capital may be shifting away from the already lofty Technology sector and into Basic Materials, Financials, Energy, Consumer Staples, Utilities, as well as other sectors.

This type of a structural market shift indicates a move away from speculation and towards Blue Chip returns. It suggests traders and investors are expecting the US consumer to come back strong (or at least hold up the market at...

Texas, Florida, Arizona, Georgia – The Branch COVIDIANS Are Still Burning Down the House

Courtesy of Lee Adler, WallStreetExaminer

The numbers of new cases in some of the hardest hit COVID19 states have started to plateau, or even decline, over the past few days. A few pundits have noted it and concluded that it was a hopeful sign.

Is it real or is something else going on? Like a restriction in the numbers of tests, or simply the inability to test enough, or are some people simply giving up on getting tested? Because as we all know from our dear leader, the less testing, the less...
